Character System [BETA, Wip]

Introduction

All player characters in TNW are Ninja.  Ninja are military personnel of the three major villages and practitioners of at least one of the three jutsu types.  Ninja begin with two different ranks.  One rank denotes power and capability, and ranges from D-S, and is typically not mentioned or referenced in character.  The second rank denotes military rank in the village, and the ranks are: Genin, Chuunin, Special Jounin, Jounin, and Kage, ranging from the lowest to highest on the totem pole.  As with the Clan System, we will mostly explain character creation by going through the template together.  When you are finished with your character, post a link to the topic in the character requests section on discord.

Ninja Rank

Genin are the lowest rank of ninja, newly accepted by their village into the military.  They are typically placed in squads of three other Genin and a Jounin sensei (teacher/mentor/commander) until they eventually get promoted to Chuunin.

At Chuunin rank, a ninja is trusted to be let loose in missions, to command other ninja, and teams are usually put together specifically for missions, rather than assigned a permanent team.  However, unless there are special circumstances, ninja that were previously in a Genin squad tend to take missions together and keep in touch.

At Special Jounin rank, a ninja is in training for Jounin.  They usually have a few Jounin characteristics, but are not fully developed or trained.  They can still lead Genin squads.

At Jounin rank, a ninja becomes a high ranking military commander.  Jounin are extremely dangerous, and extremely cunning.  Well respected by all, Jounin are usually strong enough and accomplished enough to be known throughout their village, and often-times in others.

There is only one Kage in each village, and they are the heads of it.  Both military generals and politicians, Kage run villages. Kage are the strongest ninja, known throughout the world, and terrifying if seen on the battlefield.

Gaining Rank

To gain rank, a character must become the corresponding power rank of the rank they are trying to achieve.  This means:

• Genin: D-Rank
  
• Chuunin: C-Rank
  
• Special Jounin: B-Rank
  
• Jounin: A-Rank
  
• Kage: S-Rank
  

The character must also make an accomplishment in character.  This can be something like winning a fight against a particularly dangerous opponent, completing a particularly dangerous mission, or many other options.  We aren't particularly strict on this.  Then, that ninja's Kage will make a recommendation for the promotion out of character to staff, who will then either approve or deny it, and the character will then receive news from a village authority of their promotion.  

Note: Kage can NOT be promoted by this means.  Special circumstances only.

To advance in tier (D-C-B-A-S), the process is much simpler.  The ninja need simply to reach the stat and skill caps for their current tier, and have at least 30 posts at their current tier.

The Template

Gender: Gender of your character
Age: Genin must be at least 12.  Chuunin, 14.  Special Jounin, 18.  Jounin, 21.  We are not having that 8 year old Kage bullshit.
Clan: Include your clan name and a link to the clan.
Village: What village is your character in? Adhere to the location of your clan.
Rank: Include D-S rank, as well as ninja rank.  Unless otherwise informed for events, all characters are starting as D-Rank Genin.

Height: Self explanatory
Weight: Self explanatory
Appearance: This can be images of your character or a DETAILED description of them.  If you use images, try to find a full body picture or a few pictures of them in different instances.
Apparel: What kind of clothing does your character wear? Try to be at least a little detailed.

Life Goal: A goal that your character wants to reach.  It can be as inconsequential or as serious as you want it to be.  Nonetheless, it helps to have what your character is working toward written down.
Quirks: Weird mannerisms, speech patterns, sayings, and whatnot that your character has.  Maybe a limp.  Maybe they hate talking about carrots.  Who knows? 
Likes: List 5 likes your character has.  Include small things and big things.  Feel free to expand on each like with a few sentences, but it is not obligatory.

Aside from the character sheet, there is also an update sheet that will be completed after your character's approval.  In this update sheet is all of the information that is needed to understand your character's abilities as they grow and develop, becoming more powerful, as well as their basic combat capabilities that were not included in the character application sheet.

Each time you want to get a jutsu, a stat increase, an item, or claim training points from a thread, you will need to apply for the update on your update sheet.  Once it is approved, you can update the update sheet.  The update sheet template is below.  When applying to update your template sheet, simply post below it and use the list code to list all changes made, and then another list code to list the topics require for those changes, like the links to the jutsu and links to whatever topic you are claiming training points from, etc.  Be clear and detailed, there will be a lot of these updates for each and every character, and we want to streamline the process as much as possible so that we can serve you in the most efficient way possible.  When you post the update sheet, and when you make updates to it, post a link to the sheet in the character requests section on discord.
